Christmas in July!

Gabriel and I went to the DesJardins' Christmas in July party last night. It was fantastic! There was so much to entertain, a tree swing, badmitten, monkey balls game, cornhole, and the Des Jardins' crab apple throwing game. We visited, laughed, and ate s'mores and puppy chow (a.k.a muddy buddies). The mosquitos were terrible but we all bared through. It was great to visit with my friend Rachel, her sis and cousin, and even Erin showed up for the very end! It was a great party! Rachel's mom has a guest book that everyone signs at each party, it dated back to 2004 I think. What a great idea. I wrote my passage half in French, the last name Des Jardins inpired me to do so. Anyhow, here are some pics.

oh yeah, I made the blue flower shirt I am wearing in the photos.

Here is Rachel with her lawn decoration, a snowman.

Work, work, work

My new job is going well, I guess. I work every night and by day I continue to apply for counseling jobs. At least I have some cash in my pocket!

I am at a stand still on sewing until I can buy some new fabric and set up my studio.

Gabe finished building our walnut TV console. Here is a photo of it!

Here is a link to my Facebook album of Gabriel's work...

I've been really enjoying reading other artist's blogs and being inspired. Thanks to Christy for being my first follower!

Spring!

Good morning! I am sitting here drinking my coffee with Gypsy, watching the today show. I look over at my flowers and here's what I see...

My little herb starter kit that my friend Erin and I started not even a week ago. My little seedlings! Basil, Oregano, and Rosemary (I think?)...So excited!

Here are my orchids. I love them very much! They are in their second bloom, success! I'm very proud. They even survived a winter move!

Have a wonderful day!

Got a JOB!

So I got hired at the Wyndham Hotel in Portland as a restaurant bartender. I start tomorrow. Whew. This should hold me over while I try to find a counseling job.

In the meantime, I made some pot holders today with some scrap fabric. Still waiting to buy batting for my new quilt.

Headed out for a glass of wine with friends.

Beautiful Day!

Easter was fabulous! Spent it with lots of family and my dear boyfriend, Gabriel. Definately missed my parents and sisters though! and especially my baby niece Analise.

It's Monday and I am still waiting on responses from a few job options. Instead of being upset about starting another week of being unemployed with a Master's degree, I've decided to start a new quilt!

Windows are open and the Today show is on!

Happy Monday.

Here is a sneak peak...

and here is Gypsy all pretty for Easter!

other projects

my very first blog

Hi there! my name is Michelle and this is a blog to record my progress with my new found love of quilting.

The first time I remember learning to sew was in high school. Mrs. Johnson taught us to hand sew and I've been doing that ever since. My mother has been a huge inspiration when it comes to machine sewing. She had a machine around and sometimes I would sew a little pouch or bag, mess up her sewing machine, and not return to it for months. She would make curtains for me when I was in college and now redecorates her own home often.

Due to planning a big move from Ohio to Maine with my wonderful boyfriend Gabriel and being a graduate student, I had little money to spend on Christmas gifts in 2009. My parents were in the midst of a move so I offered to give my mom's sewing machine a good home for the Christmas season. I struggled very often with this machine as I fumbled through "how to" videos on winding the bobbin, threading, and tensions. WHEW. I made it through and Gabriel surprised me with a brand new Singer sewing machine! I finished my gifts on my mom's sewing machine though b/c now the Singer was too advanced for me to switch to in the middle of my projects.

Now we are in Maine and I have had plenty of time to get acquainted with my Singer. Boy do I love it! I have successfully completed my first quilt in addition to multiple other projects.

I am now waiting for my studio to be completed so that I will have a ton of space to begin more quilts.

Here it is!
